What these specs mean
- Core material
- Foam cores (such as EVA, EPP or PU foam) are a newer construction. Brands use foam to add pop and a more even response across the face; feel varies a lot between foam types and designs.
- Face
- Carbon fiber faces are stiff and light, generally favoring control and a consistent response.
These are typical tendencies of each construction. Weight, balance, surface treatment and each brand's specific materials also change how a paddle plays.
How it compares
- Foam cores: 435 of the 4,693 approved paddles with a listed core material (9%).
- 1 of 2 approved foam-core paddles first approved in 2019.
- Carbon fiber faces: 2,179 of the 4,692 approved paddles with a listed face material (46%).
