What these specs mean
- Core thickness
- A mid-thickness core (about 14 to 15 mm) sits between the two common builds: a bit more pop than 16 mm, a bit more cushion than 13 mm.
- Core material
- Polypropylene honeycomb is the most widely used core. The plastic cells absorb impact, giving a quiet, soft and forgiving feel that suits control and touch.
- Shape
- Elongated paddles add reach and leverage for more swing speed on drives and serves, and often have a longer handle for two-handed backhands. The trade-off is a narrower face, so the sweet spot is smaller and off-center hits are less forgiving.
- Face
- Carbon fiber faces are stiff and light, generally favoring control and a consistent response.
- Combination
- An elongated shape with a thinner core is a power-leaning combination: extra leverage plus a faster, firmer response.
These are typical tendencies of each construction. Weight, balance, surface treatment and each brand's specific materials also change how a paddle plays.
Pro tour legality (UPA-A)
Amateur and USA Pickleball–sanctioned events accept paddles on the USA Pickleball list. PPA Tour and MLP pro events require UPA-A certification.
