What these specs mean
- Core thickness
- Thinner cores (about 13 mm and under) typically feel firmer and send the ball off the face faster: more power and a crisper feel, with less touch on soft shots.
- Core material
- Polypropylene honeycomb is the most widely used core. The plastic cells absorb impact, giving a quiet, soft and forgiving feel that suits control and touch.
- Face
- A raw carbon face leaves the carbon-fiber surface untreated. Its natural texture tends to grip the ball for spin, though texture can wear with heavy use.
- Combination
- A thin honeycomb core is a classic power build: firm and fast off the face, with less dwell time for touch shots.
These are typical tendencies of each construction. Weight, balance, surface treatment and each brand's specific materials also change how a paddle plays.
How it compares
- Thicker than 10% of the 3,438 approved paddles with a listed core thickness.

- 1 of 747 approved polypropylene honeycomb-core paddles first approved in 2023.
- Raw carbon faces: 882 of the 3,530 approved paddles with a listed face material (25%).
